My Weekly Plan: Mise en Scene

This week I will be searching for a suitable and unique location where I will be taking my photos for the front cover and I have decided I will be using one actor to be the main feature of my magazine.
I will also be thinking about different potential costumes that my actor will be wearing on the front cover and on the double page spread.

There are three examples of shots that have inspired what my front cover photo will look similar to and are all from the Rolling Stone magazine:

Music Magazine Research Reflection

Throughout the research process, my previous posts have covered my exploration of what different kinds of music magazines are really out there on the market and what genres of music they focus on. I found that they have music magazines that cover almost every single genre of music and I discovered what kind of music I would like my own magazine to cover.

In conclusion, I have decided to do a mixed genre music magazine, similar to the Rolling Stone and Q music magazine, aimed at both males and females.
Rolling Stone

Q

I chose to create a mixed music genre magazine because I love a variety of different music types and prefer magazines that cover a wide variety of news about a wide variety of music artists.
Young professionals are who it will mainly be aimed at but it will be suitable for older reader also. The price range will be between £4.00-£4.50 and I have chosen this specific price because it is a little lower than the similar kinds of magazine that have inspired my magazine. This would potentially persuade people to purchase my magazine over a more expensive, similar magazine.

The types of artists that will be featured in my magazine will be very successful established artists as well as more low key artists and bands such as "The 1975" who I believe deserve more publicity and for their music to be heard by a larger scale of people.

I have not yet decided a name for my magazine but it is a work in progress.

My next post will be focusing on Mise en Scene and a general overview on who and what I will be using in my photo shoots.

Music Magazine Target Audiences

Target Audience
All music magazines have target audiences so that they have a successful and essentially a magazine that will sell large amounts and earn the companies large sums of money.

Rolling Stones is aimed at a "younger  readership interested in youth orientated television shows, film actors and popular music". The magazine isn't aimed at a specific gender which would potentially the number of copies sold of each issue. Rolling Stones is aimed at middle to higher class.

We Love Pop is mainly aimed at teenaged girls from 12-15 who are interested in the latest pop music, pop singers and pop bands. The social class it is aimed at is middle class.

Kerrang is aimed at both males and females from around 15 and above who are interested in Rock and Metal bands, singers and their music. Kerrang is aimed at all social classes.

My Music Interests

I have a very eclectic music taste and so I'm interested in various music genre's including Rap , Pop, Alternative, Classical, Swing, Rock & R&B.

Rap: Rap is one of my favourite genres of music and some of my favourite rap artists are Big Sean, The Weeknd, Nicki Minaj and Drake. I really enjoy rap music because it's very expressive and Rappers can portray all emotions through the skill of Rap. Rap music always makes me feel positive and it's fun to be able to know the words to a rap songs.

Pop: I love Pop music because of how upbeat and positive it makes you feel when you listen to it. One of my favourite pop singers is Ariana Grande because whether it's an upbeat, happy pop song or a pop ballad, her voice will always sound flawless.  I believe pop music is one of the most popular genres of music and so many artists in the music industry create countless catchy and quality pop songs which deserve all of the success they receive.
Classical: I really enjoy some pieces of classical music however I listen to them on rare occasions so I don't get bored of them. I especially love the song Vespera performed by Aled Jones which is actually one of my favourite songs.
Alternative: Alternative music is definitely one of my favourite genre's of music because of how different the sound is and I actually enjoy the fact that some alternative artists, such as The 1975, Vance Joy and Amber Run, aren't in the charts because I believe their music then feels more personal to them and their fan groups.

Music Magazine Research

I have started my research for Music Magazines and I have found a wide variety of genres for people who are interested in different and specific types of music.
The genres included are:
1. Mixed Genre
2. Rock and Roll
3. Pop
4. Rap
5. Hip Hop
6. Metal
An example of a very popular music magazine is 'Q':
1. Q is a music magazine that covers and includes news and articles          on all genres of music. It is extremely popular and has high sale rates. It was created for older music buyers as the creators believed that the music press of the time was ignoring that specific generation.
